BP3 Analysis of Tetiyette and the Devil

Tetiyette and the Devil was an oral story that was heard by an author who put it in his book of oral stories.  The orator of Tetiyette and the Devil conveyed the message of not judging a book by its cover, through many literary devices.  The story was originally spoken so it was supposed to sound good out loud.  This is shown through the many rhymes and repetition throughout the story.  "I want nothing to do with him"(Ina Cesaire and Joelle Lauren 1-2), was repeated on every animal that tried to see Tetiyette.  The use of Bel-air drum repeatedly also showed how it was supposed to be more of a song or chant.

She used the imagery of the pig and goat to show how they were animals in her sight and not very attractive.  The devil being very handsome and all in gold really shows how vain she is and her focus on looks.  The story also started out with once upon a time like a fairy tale showing how it was for kids.  The devil is a metaphor for an evil husband who is maybe abusive or just ingores her or takes her for granted.  He is eating her which could be shown as corrupting her and making her become like him swallowing all that was her own.  Hyperbole is also used in saying that "He climbed up the staircase, twenty steps at a time."  The slime that came out of the devil can also be a metaphor for him being abusive and evil in general.

The intedned audience for Tetiyette and the Devil is probably young girls.  The stories were generally told at funerals so anyone at the funeral would also be the audience, giving a good lesson for those present.  It was a creative way to get the message through to the kids while still keeping them interested.  The older men were the ones to generally tell the stories but this time it was a younger girl.  This is why the story was to teach the younger girls which she had just been not too long ago some good advice.

BP2 The Best of Haiti

Haiti is southeast from Florida in the U.S.  It is connected with the Dominican Republic to form Hispaniola.  It is just south of Cuba and east of Jamaica.  Haiti is right at the top of the Caribbean.

French is one of the official languages of Haiti.  It is mainly used by the wealthier Haitian's, in schools, and is the written language of Haiti.  Haitian Creole is the main spoken language of Haiti.  Ninety-five percent of the country is fluent in it.  There are three dialects of Haitian Creole, northern, central, and southern dialect.  It is not written on but a few documents because it is viewed as less prestigious.

Haiti currently has a semi-presidential republic, where the president is elected by popular election and is the head of the state.  He appoints the prime minister which is the head of the government.  The central government is the ultimate power of the government, delegating powers to the local governments.

       Travel to Haiti
You can get to Haiti by plane with a one stop flight being cheapest.  The outbound trip will take a total of 12 hours and 21 minutes, with an eight hour and 23 minute layover.  The return trip would take a total of 9 hours, with a 4 hour and 44 minute layover.  You can also go on a cruise there leaving at 5:00pm February 24th from Miami.  Arriving at Haiti on the 27th for the day.  You will get back to Miami at 7:00am March 1. To get to Haiti you will need a U.S. passport.

I would stay at the Marriott Port-au-Prince Hotel, in Port-au-Prince Haiti.  It is a 4.5 star hotel with an outdoor pool and its own restaurant.  It also has a mountain view in most of the rooms. 

The Museum of Haitian art is a great place to go.  The national palace which is a huge white palace that has been rebuilt.  The national pantheon museum, iron market, and the port-au-prince cathedral are all good tourist spots. 

The cost of the flight would be 323$ dollar round trip by plane.  It would be a 636$ 5 night cruise to stop at Haiti for a day.  The hotel would cost 170$ a night for the 4 nights.  It would be a total cost of 1,639$ for the trip.  The currency is in Haitian gourdes which is 0.013 United States Dollars.

I love to hike! I hike mountains, to waterfalls, through forests, and anywhere with lots of nature.  I have gone on many different hikes in my life and I enjoyed all of them.  The views from the tops of mountains are amazing especially sunsets or sunrises.  I have hiked to many waterfalls and even jumped in some of them.  In hindsight that might not have been the best idea because the water was freezing, and I had to hike 3 miles back in wet clothes.  I would do it all over again because I loved it.
